Introducing the Dessie Case
By Azo Equipment ~ 04 June 2018
We are pleased to announce the release of the Dessie Case, the next installation in the Dessie range of items which are designed to help you organise the contents of your bag, as well as help keep things together when you unpack at your destination.
The Dessie Case has been waiting in the wings for some time. At the time of writing, it must be nearly 4 years since the idea initially surfaced, and whilst we had a prototype up and running quite quickly, it took many rounds of refinement, and ultimately living with the product, before we had a design we were confident to release. The shape and overall concept is inspired by our second most common travel partner, a good book.
The initial sketches were quirky; a clamshell case with two large diagonally zippered mesh compartments inside, plus padded walls to protect the contents and provide structure. Part of conceptualising bags, pouches and cases is deciding to what extent you compartmentalise the space. At Azo we lean towards providing open spaces that our users can fill however they like, whilst ensuring protection from the elements and impact, but with the Dessie Case we wanted to provide some more power to organise your items, without going overboard.
At the heart of this is the question of day to day practicality. Its common to see cases and bags that offer a multitude of loops, pockets and compartments, but its not always realistic to secure every item into its individual slot when you are on the move, whether that is commuting to work or grabbing some things from your bag half way up a mountain. We know through extensive testing that two compartments offers just enough flexibility to categorise your items, without being too complex. The zippered compartments ensure that nothing falls out when you open the case, and the diagonal orientation of the zips maximises the length of the items that can be placed inside. Lastly, when placed on a surface, either flat or bumpy, the Dessie Case opens out to provide a small workspace, which can be invaluable if you need somewhere to rest your items temporarily.
The Dessie case has been used to carry wash kits, tech, medical supplies and everything in between. We have tested it over the years when moving through many cities throughout the world, and whilst on expeditions in heart of the Altai mountains and on the slopes of Mount Kenya. It has never failed us, and we look forward to hearing about your experiences with this versatile and useful design.
